Edit Business Unit Dialog Box

If you use business units, use the Edit Business Unit dialog box to assign each opportunity to a business unit.

You must also assign employees to business units when you add employees in Configuration.

To display the Edit Business Unit dialog box, complete the following step:

Do one of the following:
  • To select a business unit for an opportunity on the Overview tab in the Opportunities area, click next to the Business Unit field.
  • To select a business unit for an opportunity on the Add Opportunity form or Edit Opportunity form, click in the Business Unit field.
  • To select a business unit for an employee in the Users area in the Configuration workspace, click in the Business Unit field.

Field Description
Business Unit search field To select from a list of business units with names that contain a specific sequence of characters, type the characters in this field and pause.

The business units that meet the search criteria display in the grid.

Business Unit grid How you use this grid depends on how you want to select the business unit:
  • To select from a list of business units with names that contain a specific sequence of characters, type the characters in the search field above the grid and pause. The search results display in the grid. Click the business unit you want to select.
  • To specify the business unit by selecting the values for each of the business unit levels, leave the search field above the grid blank. In the grid, select the code you want for the first business unit level. The grid then displays the list of codes for the next lower level. Continue selecting codes until you have selected all codes that make up the business unit.

    If you need to go back to a higher level, click next to the record of your selections above the list. If you want to confirm that you have the correct business unit, hover over the value in the list for the lowest business unit level to display the business unit name in a tooltip.

Select After you select the business unit in the grid, click this button to assign the opportunity or employee to that business unit.
Remove Business Unit If an opportunity is assigned to an organization and you want to remove that assignment without assigning the opportunity to another business unit, click Remove Business Unit. You can also use Remove Business Unit to remove the business unit assignment for an employee, but you must then assign the employee to another business unit.
Cancel Click Cancel to close the dialog box without assigning the opportunity or employee to a business unit.
