Configure Allowed File Types

You can configure the file type extensions that users can publish for unmanaged documents.

Prerequisites: You require the Udc.Admin entity function role.

To configure the allowed file types for Universal Document Control:

  1. On the header bar, click Admin.
  2. In the Search Admin Zones field at the top, enter Unmanaged File Extensions.
  3. Click the Unmanaged File Extensions link that displays.
  4. On the Unmanaged File Extensions window, do any of the following:

    Add an allowed file extension

    A blank row is added to the bottom of the list. Use the list on the new row to select a file extension, or manually type it in

    Remove an allowed file extension
    Allow text extraction for indexing The check box in the Extract Content column
    Export the list of extensions to Excel
    Extract Content

    If you enable text extraction for a specific file type, the system will extract text from the supported documents, including PDFs and Office documents. This extracted text will then be added to the search index when files of that file type are published, enhancing searchability and making it easier for users to find relevant information. If you choose not to enable text extraction for a specific file type, documents of that type will still be published into the PIM document management system. However, only metadata such as the document title, type, and other associated properties will be searchable. Users won't be able to search within the content of those documents.
