Close Opportunity Dialog Box

When you are no longer actively pursuing an opportunity (for example, when you have been awarded the contract), use the Close Opportunity dialog box to close it.

Closing an opportunity does not delete it, but its status is set to Inactive. It is no longer included in the selection lists of active opportunities, and you can no longer edit any of the information related to it.

If you close an opportunity and later need to open it again (for example, if you decide to renew your pursuit of the opportunity or you want to edit some of the opportunity information), select the opportunity, and click on the Opportunities toolbar. (Make sure you select All in the filter list for the search field so that the search includes inactive opportunities.)

Location

To display the Close Opportunity dialog box, complete the following steps:
  1. Click to go to the Opportunities area.
  2. Use the search field immediately above the opportunity title to select the opportunity that you want to close.
  3. Click on the Opportunities toolbar.

Note: The Close Opportunity dialog box also displays if you change the stage for an opportunity to one that is designated as a stage for closed opportunities.

Field Description
STAGE Click and select a pipeline stage for the opportunity.

The selection list only includes stages that are designated as stages for closed opportunities.

CLOSED DATE If the date in CLOSED DATE is not the date you want to associate with the close action, enter the correct date.

Type the date, or click and select it from the calendar.

REASON Click and select the reason that you are closing the opportunity.
CLOSE NOTES Enter any additional information related to closing the opportunity. Click in this field to display toolbars that provide editing and formatting options:
  • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
  • Numbered lists
  • Bulleted lists
  • Text indent and alignment
Save Click Save to close the opportunity.
Cancel Click Cancel to close the dialog box without closing the opportunity.
